How much room is left before your loss limit?

Enter your starting balance, today's starting balance, your highest balance and your equity now. You get the floor of the daily loss and of the maximum loss, static or trailing, and the money left before each one.

Equity is the balance plus or minus the open trades: it is what the limits are measured on, so a floating loss counts as soon as it happens.

The calculator runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent or saved. Firms measure their limits in different ways (balance or equity, at the end of the day or live): check how your firm does it.

Static or trailing: the same 10%, two different floors.

Static maximum loss. The floor is fixed from the first day: 10% of a 100,000 dollar account puts it at 90,000 dollars, whatever happens later. Profits move you away from it.

Trailing maximum loss. The floor follows the highest balance, keeping the same distance: after a high of 106,000 dollars the floor is 96,000, so the 6,000 dollars earned are not a cushion any more. On many firms it stops rising once it reaches the starting balance.

Daily loss. On FTMO the daily floor is the balance at the start of the day minus 5% of the starting balance, 3% on the 1-Step: with a 102,000 dollar balance this morning, equity must stay above 97,000 dollars today.

$112,000$90,000$100,000 (stops at the start)

On a 100,000 dollar account. With a trailing limit, a strategy has less room after a good run than a static one with the same percentage.

Questions about drawdown limits.

What is a trailing drawdown on a prop firm?

A maximum loss whose floor moves up with the highest balance of the account, keeping the same distance. After a high of 106,000 dollars on a 100,000 dollar account with a 10% trailing limit, the floor is 96,000 dollars instead of 90,000. Many firms stop the floor once it reaches the starting balance.

What is the difference between static and trailing drawdown?

A static maximum loss is fixed at the starting balance minus the limit, for the whole challenge; a trailing one rises with every new high. With the same percentage, the trailing limit leaves less room after a profitable run.

How is the FTMO daily loss calculated?

From the balance at the start of the day: equity must stay above that balance minus 5% of the starting balance on the 2-Step, 3% on the 1-Step. Open trades count, because the limit is measured on equity.

Do profits made today raise my daily limit?

On FTMO the floor of the day is fixed in the morning, so profits made today add room above it. A firm that measures the daily loss from the highest equity of the day works differently: check your firm's rules.

Does a floating loss count towards the limits?

On most prop firms, yes: the limits are measured on equity, so an open trade in loss counts immediately, even if it later comes back.

Is my data saved?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser: nothing you enter is sent to TierAlba or stored.

FTMO limits checked on 1 November 2026. Rules change: read your firm's current rules before you trade.
